About This Training
Corporate climate action is on the rise, but there are still critical policy gaps which must be addressed to enable businesses to deliver on their net zero goals. Though a growing number of companies have set voluntary science-based emissions reduction targets, they still represent a small minority of all companies. For significant action at scale, there is a need for clear, long-term policy direction across key areas to unlock further levers for decarbonisation and help businesses mobilise the levels of investment needed to meet their net zero targets.
To help businesses engage in effective, science-based climate advocacy, the UN Global Compact Network UK organised a 4-part webinar series across April – May 2024. This series provided practical guidance on how companies can contribute towards driving the policy conditions needed to deliver on their net zero goals and featured case studies of leading corporate climate policy engagement practices. Discussions focused on:
- The principles and governance mechanisms that companies should implement to ensure the integrity and alignment of their climate advocacy strategies with the Paris Agreement objectives;
- The role that third-party associations can play in advancing (or undermining) a company’s advocacy efforts, and the steps companies can take to ensure alignment between their industry association memberships and their corporate net zero goals;
- The various mechanisms through which businesses can shape climate-related policymaking and counter the adverse influences of anti-climate lobbyists;
- How businesses should disclose their climate lobbying activities to increase transparency and avoid reputational and litigation risk.
