What’s New this Month:

Curious How Others Are Winning Buy-In For
Climate Goals Across Their Business?

In our recent webinar with Sustainable Brands, we explored a critical question: How can you win internal buy-in for climate action — and why does it matter now?  The conversation sparked fresh insights. Now, our Net Zero Action Accelerator Director, Ellen Shenette, shares her top three tips you can use to communicate sustainability’s importance across business functions:

1. Climate risks are business risks: Focusing on risk mitigation often gains alignment across business functions, helping integrate climate in the enterprise-level strategy. 💡 Climate transition action plans are a key tool for successful communication with board members and executives, as they succinctly connect broad risks and potential mitigation strategies.

2. Framing climate in the language of business: CO2e, Scope 3, CSRD and net zero are examples of terms that can feel alienating for teams not well versed in climate. Build bridges by focusing on the financial, supply chain and operational implications of climate change while avoiding jargon.

3. From aspirational to actionable: Work with colleagues to build the strategy together, avoiding a top-down approach to foster a sense of ownership among those responsible for implementation. Anchor plans in ongoing work by aligning with existing KPIs. 📝

We’ve also updated our proof points, case studies and more for why climate action is smart business to help you talk to anyone you work with on embedding sustainability into business:

Why We’re Backing the World’s Largest Company

For the first time, EDF has taken a stance on a corporate legal matter: “We’ve filed this amicus brief because Apple is an undeniable climate leader. Investors, employees and consumers are asking for companies to take climate action… We need to see this leading climate action scale across the private sector, not get penalized.” – Elizabeth Sturcken, Vice President of Net Zero Ambition and Action.

EDF filed an amicus brief in support of Apple in a lawsuit that challenges the company’s carbon neutral claim for the Series 9 Apple Watch. The watch’s footprint – 78% emissions cuts, 22% offset with high-integrity credits – is grounded in science and is the dedication we need more companies to replicate. If this case proceeds, it could deter companies from taking transparent, ambitious climate action.

Building Momentum to Reduce Methane Emissions

We’re delighted to share a progress update from the Dairy Methane Action Alliance, EDF’s global convening of food and dairy companies working to tackle methane, a potent climate pollutant (yes, we’re talking about cow burps). By cutting emissions, we can future-proof supply chains and bend the curve on near-term warming for a more sustainable dairy sector.

✅ New Commitments: Agropur, Idaho Milk Products and SAVENCIA Fromage & Dairy have joined the Alliance.
✅ Published Action Plans: Alliance members Danone and Lactalis USA became among the first companies globally to publish detailed strategies for reducing methane from their dairy supply chains
✅ New How-To Guides: Two new guides offer practical resources for companies to plan and operationalize methane reductions, like a streamlined action plan template and an on-farm solutions table.
